Legislative Advisory Committee
The mission of the Legislative Advisory Committee (LAC) is to make recommendations to the Illinois ASBO Board of Directors and communicate with membership on issues regarding public policy and/or legislation involving resource management for education.
A Network for Legislative Issues
Organized in December 2004 as the Delegate Advisory Assembly (DAA), the LAC meets three times a year and, when not in session, serves as a “go-to response network” to provide timely testimony, research and solutions as legislation moves through Springfield. To date, this group has successfully advanced legislation related to bidding, Chief School Business Official certification and other key topics.
The LAC brings legislative issues affecting school districts to the forefront while also elevating the expertise of school business professionals to help inform elected officials and shape public policy.
A typical LAC meeting includes updates from Illinois ASBO leadership, legislative insights from partner organizations, discussions on key initiatives and opportunities for members to raise emerging policy issues. Guest speakers, including state legislators, are often invited to participate in LAC meetings.
